The Protestant hymnal turns 500 years old in 2024! Three important early prints that can be regarded as the precursors of this genre – the Acht-Lieder-Buch (Book of Eight Songs), the Erfurt Enchiridion and Johann Walter’s Chorbuch (Choir Book) – first appeared in 1524. Accordingly, the hymnal will not only be used during the winter semester, but will also be commemorated as such during worship services.
